Chompster stores the recipes you save and the lists you build from them. This page explains exactly what we hold, who else touches it, and how to get it back or delete it.
The data controller is David Alexander, contactable at hello@chompster.app. This policy covers the Chompster iOS app, the browser bookmarklet and chompster.app.
Your name, email address and profile picture, as supplied by our sign-in provider when you create an account. We never see or store your password.
The recipes you save and anything attached to them — ingredients, method, your notes, your ratings, which recipes you have marked as favourites, and photos you upload. Also your collections, your kitchen contents, your shopping list, and a log of when you cooked something.
When you import a recipe we record the web address, the site's domain, whether it worked, which extraction method succeeded and how long it took. This is how we find out which sites are broken and fix them.
If you share a kitchen with someone, both of you can see and change the shared shopping list and kitchen contents. Your saved recipes stay private to you.
When the app crashes we receive a report describing what went wrong, along with device and app version details and a screenshot of the screen at the moment of the crash, which may show whatever recipe you were looking at. We have turned off the automatic collection of personally identifying information in these reports.

We use a small number of suppliers to run Chompster. Each handles your data only on our instructions.

Recipe text is sent to OpenAI so it can be turned into structured ingredients and steps. It is not used to train their models under the terms of their API. Suppliers outside the UK and EU are covered by the standard contractual clauses in their data processing agreements.
Importing from social media. These imports work differently depending on the platform, and one of them sends more than text:
Importing from a website. When you import a recipe, our extraction service requests that page. The site you are importing from may see that request and log it as its own visitor, subject to its own privacy policy.
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, hand it over in a portable format, restrict what we do with it, or object to our legitimate interests. Two of these you can do yourself, immediately, without asking us:
For anything else, email hello@chompster.app and we will respond within one month. If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, though we would rather you told us first so we can put it right.
Recipes you import belong to whoever wrote them. We store a copy for your personal use and keep a link back to the original. If you are a recipe creator and want your content removed, email us and we will deal with it.
Chompster is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we will delete it.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects you we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
If Chompster is sold or merged with another company, your data would transfer to the new owner, who must keep to this policy. We will tell you before that happens.
